Porirua Youth becoming leaders
Two exciting new youth development programmes are being made available by the Team at Spirit of Rangatahi for January 2015.
Both programmes will be held in Porirua East at Freedom House. The first starts on Monday 4 January 2015 for Senior Youth (14-18 years old). Check out the link for the flier and the registration form here.
The second programme runs from 20-23 January for Intermediate Youth (11-13 years old). Check out the link for the flier and the registration form for this programme here.
And it's all free to those who Step Up!
Associate Professor Hon Luamanuvao Winnie Laban, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Pasifika), says:
“In life we need to take every opportunity we are given to develop our ‘āiga and families, our communities and our potential. This leadership development programme is great for our young people in Porirua to learn to be confident and proud about who we are as Pasifika people and where we are going. Dreams are possible!”
And Cr Izzy Ford (Eastern Ward) says:
"This is a great opportunity for our youth to have fun and meet new friends. It's a great team from our community with some special guests. So Step Up and grab it!"
All youth who step up and complete this programme will receive a certificate of completion.
Fredwyn Kisona, a Student at Victoria University of Wellington and former Head Boy of Aotea College, says it is:
"A great opportunity to gain confidence naturally simply through interacting with others and have a lot of fun doing community projects together. Its a great give back!"
This is a great opportunity to learn more about leadership skill and have fun during the summer holiday break. This programme is designed especially to include Sports and Arts/Cultural leaders. Understand more about team roles and responsibilities! What skills do you have? What skill do you need to develop? What is your leadership style?
This Leadership development programme builds on the identity as Maori, Pacific Islanders and Pakeha in order to cultivate strong confident young leaders. The team offering this leadership development programme are from Samoan, Fijian, Tongan, Maori, Tokelauan and Pakeha backgrounds.
This will be the 5th Anniversary Programme so the team of the Spirit of Rangatahi will be celebrating with their signature Concert on Friday 16 January at 1.00 pm.
Registration is limited so early registration is important.
